RCNS – Research Center for Natural Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences

RCNS carries out research activities in the fields of enzymology, organic chemistry, cognitive neuroscience, and materials- and environmental chemistry. Activity of RCNS in the area of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology comprises research and development of proton conducting membranes, bipolar plates and electrocatalysts for PEMFCs. Recently, investigation of noble metal free electrocatalysts has been started. Chemical analysis by nuclear methods and radiography helps diagnostics of working fuel cells. Hydrogen production is pursued by design of catalysts for ethanol steam reforming and photocatalytic methanol reforming. Preferential CO oxidation for purification of hydrogen is also studied. High-throughput experimentation is used for preparation and testing of new materials. RCNS has expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, polymer chemistry and nuclear methods.
